Haridwar is one of the seven sacred cities of Hinduism. The name means Gateway to God: Hari Dwar for Vaishnavites, Har Dwar for Shaivites. The city is one of four sites — along with Prayagraj, Nashik, and Ujjain — that host the Kumbh Mela every 12 years, the next is 2033. Haridwar is entirely vegetarian and alcohol-free.

Har Ki Pauri and Ganga Aarti
The primary pilgrimage ghat of Haridwar, where the Ganges is believed to carry a footprint of Vishnu at the Brahmakund — the most sacred bathing pool at the ghat. The morning and evening Ganga Aarti takes place daily at ghat.

Mansa Devi Temple
A Shakti Peetha on Bilwa Parvat, one of the five Panch Tirthas of the city. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Mansa Devi and is known for the practice of tying a red thread (mannat) on the grill outside the sanctum as a vow, and returning to untie it when the wish is fulfilled. Accessible by ropeway or a 3 km uphill trek.

Chandi Devi Temple
A Siddh Peetha on Neel Parvat, built in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya. Dedicated to Goddess Chandi, it forms part of the Siddh Peeth trio of Haridwar along with Mansa Devi and Maya Devi — visiting all three is the standard pilgrimage circuit. Accessible by ropeway or by a 3 km uphill trek.

Maya Devi Temple
One of the oldest temples in Haridwar, a Shakti Peetha where the heart and navel of Goddess Sati fell. The temple gives the city its ancient name Mayapuri. It is more intimate and less crowded than the hill temples. The inner sanctum contains idols of Goddess Maya, Goddess Kali, and Goddess Kamakhya.

Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple
A significant Shaiva temple, one of the Panch Tirthas of Haridwar. The temple stands on the site where, according to Hindu mythology, King Daksha Prajapati conducted a fire ritual to which he did not invite Shiva, leading to Sati's self-immolation — the mythological origin of the Shakti Peethas across the subcontinent.

Rajaji National Park (Chilla Range)
A national park and tiger reserve. The Chilla Range, directly adjacent to Haridwar, is the most accessible section and the entry point for Haridwar-based visitors. The park is home to Asian elephants, tigers, leopards, gharial crocodiles in the Ganges, and over 300 species of birds.
