Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu and the primary gateway to South India. Chennai sits at the center of a classical cultural tradition — Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam dance are practiced and performed here at the highest level. The city’s identity is shaped by the Dravidian culture of Tamil Nadu — ancient temples with elaborately carved gopurams, a cuisine built on rice, lentils, and tamarind.
