Getting Around

Not available.

Not practical. Intracity buses run across the city but routes are difficult to navigate without local knowledge.

Practical. Ride-hailing apps like Ola and Rapido operate in Jhansi, offering autos, hatchbacks, sedans, and intercity cab options. Book through the app — fares are shown upfront, pay by card in the app or in cash to the driver at the end of the trip.

Practical. For short distances (up to 5 km) or when apps are unavailable. Tell or show the auto driver your destination — they can refuse, in which case move to the next one. Agree on the fare (approx. ₹30–₹40 per km) before you get in. Know the distance to your destination via maps before negotiating.

Jhansi on Ground

Jhansi Mahotsav — February
A government-organised cultural festival held at the fort featuring folk music, dance, and a sound and light show at the fort — the most significant annual cultural event in the city.

Orchha Festival — Feb/Mar
A cultural festival at the Orchha monuments, coinciding with the Jhansi Mahotsav period — both can be combined in a single visit.

Ram Navami — Mar/April
Observed at the Ram Raja Temple in Orchha with particular significance — the temple is unique in worshipping Ram as a king with a state military guard ceremony.

Dhurrie weaving
Flat-woven cotton rugs produced in the Bundelkhand region; a craft tradition present in Jhansi and surrounding villages with distinct geometric patterns.

Bell metal craft
Brass and bell metal utensils and decorative objects produced by artisan communities in the Jhansi district.

Stone carving
Sandstone carving in the Chandela tradition, produced by artisan families whose craft lineage connects to the Khajuraho temple builders.

Jhansi food centers on Bundelkhandi cuisine — dal bafla (wheat dumplings served with dal and ghee, the Bundelkhand counterpart to Rajasthani dal baati), poha, and the chaat of the old city market area around Sipri Bazaar. A small number of restaurants near the railway station serve standard North Indian food.
